Choreographic Work
that's the right idea
With a self-designed score including music from artist Kaho Matsui, that's the right idea takes inspiration from the Japanese concept of 侘び寂び (wabi-sabi), a world view encouraging us to appreciate that nothing is truly perfect or permanent in life. Through journeys of acceptance, reconnection, and appreciation, three individuals come together to explore the essence of the 心 (kokoro), embracing the process of restoring what may be perceived as broken or lost into something new and beautiful.
"We can't possibly have it all together when we don't even know what all the pieces look like. And the sooner we realize this, the sooner we can start honoring ourselves and one another for the imperfect treasures that we are. We just have to trust that sometimes, when the head cannot find the answer, the heart knows the way."
- From "Wabi-Sabi: Japanese Wisdom for a Perfectly Imperfect Life" by Beth Kempton
all the feels, all the same to me
all the feels, all the same to me encompasses the frustrations of being stuck in a loop of recurring events and the fight to break out of this cycle. Taking heavy inspiration from the lyrics of the song, this work embraces the relation to California seasons and the feelings generated when each season blends into one another creating a monotonous and unlively atmosphere.
